So we all know that nuts have good protein and healthy fats, right? And that almonds and walnuts are particularly great for us, right? Well, I read that almonds are actually a SEED and not a nut! Seriously!! Who knew?!
Anyhoo, remember when you, as the healthy chick you are, were called out if you, say, went to a party and indulged by having some “cocktail nuts”? Not because of the fact that they were roasted and heavily salted in the least and chocked full o’ preservatives, rancid oils or germs from your grubby cousin’s unwashed hands…but simply because they were supposedly BAD FOR YOU. After you hear something so many times, even if it’s not correct, it’s hard to change that “loop tape” in the brain.
Have you gotten over your fear of nuts or of fat in general?
As a reformed “nothing but fat-free for me, thank you”-girl I can say, “Yes”. Only now I’m worried that I’m getting TOO much. If you don’t eat meat and try to look for healthful alternatives, most of the alternatives are NOT fat free. (And yes, I know about eggs but I’m allergic and I *strive* to be more vegan.) Vegetarians and vegans, for the most part, do not have low-fat or certainly fat-free diets nor do they look it.
Tofu anyone?
