ymmv means “Your Mileage May Vary”

This means you, individualized. I write this post today because it’s January and everywhere you look, there are articles about diet and resolutions. If you are desiring to better your health and to lose weight, you’ll try whatever sounds reasonable or has worked for someone else. Media KNOWS this and that is why they play on that human emotion or desire.

Here’s the thing: EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.

Just because it worked for someone else doesn’t mean that it will work for you. Just because it didn’t work for someone else doesn’t mean it won’t work for you.

Everyone has a different internal make up even if they are the same gender, age and activity level. Hormonally we are different as well. If we were all the same, then…well…we’d all be the same and there wouldn’t be a need for different medications and different diets and different EVERYTHING because everybody would be on the same thing.

Do ketogenic diets work? Sure. For everyone? No. Do vegetarian diets work? Sure. For everyone? No. Now, insert any diet plan in the world for those statements. It’s a process of a trial and error because no one right way of eating is right for everyone.

The adage of “eat less, move more” is also not 100% consistent for everyone. I know of people who are on corticosteriods and others who have had eating disorders and trust me, they eat next to nothing, and move a lot-but you wouldn’t consider them fit or thin.

For some people, a high protein diet and regime of heavy weight-lifting works well and leans them out. For other women, it bulks ‘em up and bloats them.

I could go on and on.

I just get so discouraged when I read the gossip mag’s and fitness articles as if one way, or someone’s one way, is THE way. It’s not.

Get out there and learn about yourself and do the best you can to be the healthiest YOU you can.
