- I read in British Vogue that Julianna Moore (from this FIT FRIDAY post) does Ashtanga yoga everyday. **claps hands** I can only hope to look that good (but with a wee bit o’ a tan) when I’m even close to her age!!
- About MK Olsen: About every five weeks, Olsen jets to her house in Los Angeles, where she sees her boyfriend, actor Justin Bartha of The Hangover, and checks in at Dualstar. Before she departs she’s often especially pressured, supervising fittings in between countless meetings. It’s an exhausting routine, and to stay balanced and focused she practices yoga; most recently she attended a retreat to study an Ayurvedic practice called Panchakarma. “It was the first time I had ever done anything like that,” she says. “It was really interesting to go by myself and just meditate for a couple of days. I was with two teachers for a week and a half. I needed it.” Olsen admits to being a “French fries and hamburger girl,” and the retreat taught her how to handle food. “I am literally the worst eater in the world,” she says. “Being in the garment district, it’s Subway or pizza. I never actually thought about what I eat. [At the retreat] I learned about cleansing and eating right for your body. I came back energized.”“… - HAMPTONS-MAGAZINE.COM
I wish my Ayurvedic experience was going a little better this month…

- In an article in Southern Season’s magazine, the author discusses organic fruits and vegetables. While it would be nice to have the time & resources to grown your own little garden of food, or shop at a Farmer’s Market, or enter into a coop/sharecrop deal, or even regularly buy organic at the store, it’s just not 100% feasible for 100% of fit chicks. The article claims that not only do organic foods taste better and are prepared (grown/processed) without pesticides or artificial additives, but that a study showed these foods to contain 40% MORE antioxidants than their ‘regular’ counterparts. Foodnews.org through the Environmental Working Group published a list of the “dirty dozen” worst fruits and vegetables meaning they were highest in pesticides; people who eat regularly from the list consume an average of 10 pesticides a day. They are:
- Peach
- Apple
- Bell pepper
- Celery
- Nectarine
- Strawberry
- Cherry
- Kale (<- wow!)
- Lettuce
- Grape
- Carrot
- Pear
In other words, if you are of limited resources, these are definately the items you WANT to spare extra expense in buying ORGANIC. Here were the ones that were “best” in terms of lower pesticide residue and therefore less important that you ‘have to’ buy organic: Onion, Avocado, Sweet Corn, Pineapple, Mango, Asparagus, Sweet Peas, Kiwi, Cabbage, Eggplant, Papaya, Watermelon, Broccoli, Tomato, and Sweet Potatoe.
What do YOU think of this? I somewhat relieved in that if forced to choose, I already like the foods on the ‘best’ list better.
- This article, among other things, has me thinking about lotions and other things that we put ON our bodies. Transdermal (medicine) patches, dermatological gels and hormonal creams method of delivery (how they WORK) is through the skin and into the bloodstream. Now, I’m no biochemist but does that inherently mean that those molecules are engineered to be so much smaller than the ’stuff’ that is in our lotions and creams? Or is some of the ’stuff’ in us as well? Therefore, I think I’m more comfortable choosing organic and natural lotions & products whenever possible. This means Burt’s Bees commercial products like sunscreen and good ol’ fashion seasame or grapeseed oil for out of the shower moisturizing.
Thoughts?? Suggestions?
p.s. Here’s some “eye candy” for those of you who have been outstanding all week & get to indulge. But only for those chicks, okay? hehe

Oh, wow! I read an article similar to this some time back, but didn’t save it and couldn’t remember the fruit/veggie lists. Thanks so much for posting this one. It’s important to watch out for parabens, glycols, and sulfates in hair, skin, and makeup products, as well.

^ Oh, great info!! I didn’t know that, or at least forgot those! When you have sensitive skin issues you tend to lean towards natural products but they’re not all the same. The less ingredients the better!! I also like LUSH products for the body/hair!
