* Strive for great, but not perfection. Especially THIS time of year…
* For those of you that travel, (again) especially this time of year, put some Neosporin in/around your nostrils (you can bring this on the plane), bring hand sanitizer, and according to Dr. Oz, if you put the “air” on in the plane (I don’t) you should aim it at your chest & take a shot of North American Ginseng for immunity.
Or you can just wear a mask.
* I rarely do weights now and do (hard) bodyweight exercises near-daily. According to the TT site, bodyweight exercises make you LEAN, reduce your chances of injury (this is b/c it’s safer than weights, less stressful on joints, and being fit/strong, in general, makes you less susceptible to injury…), are cheaper, and can be done anywhere at any time!
* A recent blurb in the The Journal of Strength & Conditioning (that I receive…but hardly get a chance to digest) suggests that doing intervals in which you perform exercise plus (cardio-type) sprints (in an interval fashion = do a 30 sec exercise followed by sprints, then a different exercise, then…etc. there are ENDLESS combinations and variations...) will burn fat faster than seperating the workout (doing all your exercises, then doing your cardio…)!!!
* From Oprah e-zine: a research panel studied the photographs & lifestyle of identical twins and came up with the following results regarding factors that ACCELERATE your aging (=make you look old, or older than you are): being heavy if you are under 40yo and (gasp!) being thin over 40 (by as little as 4 BMI points over/under, respectively), divorced (more than never married, widowed or currently married), current or past use of anti-depressants (depression itself was not ruled out as an aging factor too!!), not using hormone replacement therapy after menopause (ouch!!), and smoking (duh! unless you’re a certain “America’s sweetheart”-but then, divorce didn’t touch you either...).
* I’m a fan, though not fanatical, about juicing and “smoothing”. Here’s a super juice from yogamint. Beets are great detoxifiers, the apples are alkaline to affect pH (so is celery, btw…), etc etc.
Super Juice:
1 small beet (a little beet juice goes a long way, so go easy on it)
4 carrots
1 apple
1-inch of ginger root
No ice needed! If you’re hardcore, like me, you can blend these with 1/2 - 1 C of water and get the fiber and nutrient benefits from the skins/pulp/etc.
Be hardcore!
