* There is an ad that runs on TheFitChick (I don’t pick ‘em) for ’special shoes’. Not the orthopedic or granny kind but new shoes that are *supposedly* part of the trending in fitness footwear. I don’t know about these in particular but I have heard good things about the Sketchers that tone the butt. Anyone care to share more?
* If you still do the traditional split gym routine of cardio + weight training, make sure your weight training is FIRST. It’s safer and better for your fitness.
* If you are a gym rat, do not pay attention to the calorie counter on the cardio machines b/c it’s not accurate! duh! Plus, it sets up an unhealthy relationship between calories burned and calories taken in (before or after) setting up for a vicious cycle of obsessing and over-exercising. You cannot OUT-exercise bad eating (habits).
* Coffee does rev up the metabolism ( a bit ) which is why it’s best to consume before your workout.
* Tomorrow is National Yoga Day. If you’ve never tried it, try a class. If you’ve wanted to try a particular style (there are SO many), try a different class. It’s freeeeee @ participating places.
* If you need a pre-workout meal, make it protein-based, not primarily carb-based (like some workout drinks and smoothies) for better fat burning, muscle sparing benefits.
* If you’re prone to cramps, drink more water. If you are drinking water, try a banana. If you are on a potassium sparing drug (like some birth control pills), then maybe not…
* As we learned the other week, you must include EFA’s (essential fatty acids) in your diet. And are you drinking your water with some lemon?
